Take a Bite Out of Shark Week
Back for its 27 year, the Discovery Channel’s Shark Week is set to begin this Sunday August 10. It’s the longest running cable TV programming event in history after premiering in 1988 to raise awareness for sharks. What began as educational has become a popular cultural icon thrilling millions of viewers. While the educational purposes may have diminished, you can’t deny the entertainment aspects that come with the week. Whether it’s for the information or the entertainment, here are six reasons why you watch Shark Week.
1. The Specials
Of course, Shark Week is nothing without the content. After last year’s Voodoo Sharks and Megalodon, viewers are looking for similar thrills. So be on the lookout for Sharkageddon and Zombie Sharks (these are some of the cooler sounding programs).
2.The Puns
Ohhhh, so many opportunities to get the punny on. Check out Twitter and other social media sites for the #SharkWeek to get your fill of related jokes.
3.The Celebrity Host
Everyone from Andy Samburg to the cast of MythBusters has played host to the week. This year will be no different featuring Rob Lowe as the emcee.

4.Rivalry with Sharknado Franchise
I’m sure we’ll see more than this picture proclaiming the spectularness of the weeklong spectacle. Shark Week > Sharknado is the common denominator this year.
5. Shark Attack Survivors
These people give us the necessary hope for the constant fear that whenever we enter the ocean, we’ll be attacked by sharks. They’re living proof it’s possible to survive.
6. Shark After Dark with Josh Wolf
The comedy after show will return, complete with celebrity guests and shark experts. It’s bound to be another year chock full of fake sharks and costumed comedians.
